Group Programs Mental Health First Aid

Structure:
2 day workshop

Overview

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) workshops teach practical skills for helping a family member, friend, co-worker or other person who is experiencing mental health problems.

MHFA will teach you how to:

  • Listen and respond to someone with a mental health problem, even if they are experiencing a crisis
  • Help someone to access the support they might need as part of their recovery journey, and
  • Actively reduce stigma in the veteran community, by responding appropriately to myths and misunderstandings about mental illness.

MHFA is not group therapy or self-help. MHFA is a 2 day workshop appropriate for someone working or volunteering in a role that may bring them into contact with someone experiencing common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance abuse problems.

Open Arms qualified instructors, who work with the veteran community, deliver this workshop that has been developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
